One day, while Alexi and Pexi were walking along a sandy beach, Pexi said, “Waves are fun. What makes the waves?”
Alexi said, “I know that. The waves are made by the wind. As the wind blows, it pushes the water ahead of it. The water is able to gain energy from the wind because of the friction between the wind and water. Storms can make giant waves if the wind blows in the same direction for a long time.”
“How big are giant waves?” Pexi asked.
“Giant waves are so big that they could go over our heads, cover us up, and wash us away,” Alexi replied.
“I do not think giant waves would be fun, said Pexi. “I like only baby waves.”
“I do, too,” Alexi giggled as a gentle wave washed over their footprints in the sand.
