One wintry day while Alexi and Pexi were building a snowman, Pexi asked, “What makes the snow?”
“I know that!” answered Alexi. “Snow is what forms when water vapor is cooled to the freezing point quickly.”
“What is water vapor?” Pexi asked.
“Water vapor is water in the form of gas,” Alexi said. “Water can also be liquid, like when it is rain. Water can also be solid, like when it is ice or snow. Water vapor turns into snow instead of rain when the air gets cold before the water vapor has a chance to turn into rain droplets. Instead of turning into rain, the water vapor turns into snow crystals instead. The snow crystals are solid.
Pexi thought for a moment and said, “That sounds hard. I think it is easier to make a big snowman than to make a tiny snow crystal.”
Alexi laughed and put a carrot nose on the snowman. Pexi was right.
